빅로드에서 한국운전면허증을 시험 없이 호주 면허증으로 교환하기

호주 도로교통국(Austroads)이 ‘25세 이상 한국 운전면허증 소지 한국인에 대한 호주 운전면허증 교환제도’를 2012년7월1일 부터 시행하고 있습니다.  

이 제도 시행에 따라 한국 운전면허증을 보유한 25세 이상 한국인은 ‘운전면허 상호인정제도’ 시행국가 국민과 같은 대우를 받게 돼 호주에서 별도의 운전면허증을 따지 않아도 현지 운전면허증을 발급받아 사용할 수 있게 되었습니다. 이제 초기 이민자가 빅로드에서 가슴 졸이며 드라이빙 테스트 보던 일은 옛말이 되었습니다. 

빅로드에 갈 때 예약은 따로 필요가 없으며 (홈페이지에서 미리 예약하면 예약 카운터로 바로 가서 기다리지 않아서 좋고요)  준비해 가야할 필요 서류로는 여권, 한국 운전 면허증, 면허증 공증 서류(번역.공증), 메디케어나 은행카드중 하나, 공공요금빌이나 뱅크스테이트먼트(주소와 본인이름 증명)중 하나 입니다.

운전면허증에 붙일 사진은 빅로드에서 직접 찍는데요. 미리 머리 손질하고 면도하고 가는 게 좋겠죠.  접수하면 임시증을 주는데 그것으로 운전을 해도 되고요. 실제 운전면허증은 9일안에 주소지로 우편으로 보내 줍니다.   아래와 같이 홈페이지에는 전환 수수료는 없다고 해놓고 실제로는 신규발급비를  달라고 한다네요.

신규발급비는  2013년4월1일 부로   170불에서 240불로 무지막지 인상되었네요.

Evidence of identity
On the day of your appointment you need to bring original evidence of identity documents. 

You must have:

• your overseas licence and an English translation
• one primary evidence document (eg. Australian birth certificate or passport)
• one secondary evidence document with your Victorian address (eg. credit/account card, phone bill, bank statement)
• evidence of Victorian address if not included on secondary evidence document (eg phone bill, bank statement)

One of these documents must have your signature on it.

빅로드 홈페이지에 보면 준비서류로서 운전면허증이 영어로 되어 있지 않은 경우에는 번역된 서류가 있어야 된다고 합니다. 국제운전면허증도 번역되어 있지만 유효기간이 명기되어 있지 않기 때문에 부족한 면이 있어서 불가불 번역을 따로 해야 하는데  다행히 멜번 한국대사관분관에 가면 번역,공증을 받을 수 있습니다.  다만 번역 신청하러 한번, 다시 찾으러 한번, 두번을 가야 하는 점이 불편합니다.  

한국운전면허증이랑 여권을 가지고 가서  비치된 양식에 내용 작성해서 주면 하루 뒤에 도장 쾅 찍어서 줍니다.  한국 같으면 당일날 바로 주겠는데요. 수수료는 5불 정도 듭니다.
